Taiwan Stock Market Overview
The Taiwan stock market has had some rough goingg in the last couple of years because of the region's economy has not been particularly strong and the political direction the Taiwanese leaders pursued did not help the market situation either.
The new goverment that swings to power in 2008 realized it is mutually beneficial to have a closer financial ties with mainland China. Therefore Taiwan is enacting new laws to allow larger mutual investments between Taiwan and mainland China.

Taiwan has one stock exchange called Taiwan Stock Exchange. The total size (or market capitalization) of the Taiwanese stock market is relatively small at about $500-600 billion. That's pretty modest compared to about $1.8 trillion for Hong Kong Stock Exchange and about $4 trillion for China Stock Market
